Following is an excerpt from Bishop Diane Jardine Bruce’s newsletter “From the Mission Field”, dated January 1, 2024. We are so thankful to have a bishop who notices the good work of the people of this diocese, as we strive to meet important needs in the community.
“This month, with the help of our communications guru Zach Phillips, I am highlighting St. Michael’s in Independence and their Necessity Pantry. You can see a bit about their ministry [in the video below].
Early in my time with you (early 2022), I visited with St. Michael’s Senior Warden Mindy Swayne and Deacon Larry Allen to learn about the Pantry, and I was so impressed! They provide families with what government funds do not – and a line of cars waits to receive the gifts the pantry has been given.
St. Michael’s Necessity Pantry receives some financial and volunteer support from St. Anne’s in Lees Summit and Church of the Resurrection in Blue Springs. I hope you will look at this video and look around your own neighborhood to see how your congregation might come alongside the Holy Spirit to bless your community.
