Madeline M. Monat (1922-2024)
Madeline M. Monat passed away at home Friday, March 1 at the age of 101. She was born September 18, 1922 in Texarkana AR, the only daughter of Sophie and Walter Sanford. After high school she moved to St. Louis to study nursing at Washington University where she met and married her late husband, Dr. Seymour Monat. Together they had many adventures, including 3 years working for the medical service in Los Alamos, NM during the Manhattan Project. After almost 40 years in St. Louis, she and Seymour moved to Lexington MO and eventually Independence. She was a lover of all animals (especially cats) and a talented gardener.
Madeline was a loving and caring wife and mother and is survived by her daughter, Katie Langdon of Lee’s Summit, and son, Phil Monat (Barbara), of New York, NY. Her son Peter C. Monat (Carrie) preceded her in death. She was devoted to her 2 grandchildren, Adam Langdon (Neeli) of Parkville MO and Anne Langdon Hamilton (Chris) of Dallas TX and great grandchildren, Ella and Mila Langdon and Jack Hamilton.
Memorials can be made to St. Michael’s Episcopal Church or Wayside Waifs. Madeline will be remembered for her fun and cheery outlook, despite any adversities, and a caring, positive attitude to help others. She was always looking on the sunny side of life and did not have a mean bone in her. We were all so lucky to have known her, and she will be dearly missed.
